50s - All I Have To Do Is Dream (Everly Brothers)

All I Have To Do Is Dream

"All I Have to Do Is Dream" is a popular song made famous by the Everly Brothers, written by the husband and wife songwriting team of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, whose songs were tailor-made for the brothers' distinctive style.

It stayed at #1 spot in the US Billboard charts for 4 weeks in May 1958 and then topped the UK charts (for the first time) for 7 weeks (July - August 1958).

The single sold well over a million copies and it said that it took only 15 minutes to write. Incidentally, the b-side of this single, "Claudette", was penned by Roy Orbison.

Other hit versions of the song include Richard Chamberlain (1963) and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (1975). The duets by Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell in 1969 and by Andy Gibb and actress Victoria Principal in 1981 are popular too. Cliff Richard, singing with Phil Everly, took the song to #14 on the U.K. singles chart again in 1994.
