Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu)
"Volare" or "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu" ("In The Blue Painted Blue") is written by Domenico Modugno (music and lyrics) and Franco Migliacci (lyrics). This is Domenico's signautre song and it is the only song that originated in Italy to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 5 weeks (August - September 1958).
Domenico's recording became the first Grammy winner for the inaugural Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1959. It is the only foreign-language recording to achieve this honor.
The song (some partly in English andn partly in Italian) has been covered by many artistes including McGuire Sisters, Dean Martin, Bobby Rydell (1960) and The Gypsy Kings (1989).
